We spend a lot of time at Augur trying to understand the small shifts that say something bigger about where people and culture are heading. Mixed Signals is where we share some of the things that catch our attention.

In our latest issue, we look at what happens when people start questioning our obsession with efficiency and optimisation.

The aspiration of having time to waste
We’ve spent years optimising work, exercise, sleep – even our hobbies. But when leisure becomes another thing to perform, simply having time to waste might become the new luxury.

Fake shopping as therapy
Young Koreans are using fake shopping and food delivery apps to get the little dopamine hit of browsing, fill a cart, “ordering” and track a "delivery" – without actually buying anything. Shopping as digital self-soothing.

The return of intentional music listening
Some listeners are stepping away from algorithmic background listening and returning to vinyl, iPods and full albums – choosing attention over endless streams.
With more time on your hands, would you do more, or do less?
Happy reading!
