The ancient Augurs

The name Augur means “interpreter of signs” and can be traced back to the Roman era, around the time of Christ’s birth.

In antique Rome, an augur was a highly placed official, skilled in sign interpretation and with the ability to see into the future. No self respecting emperor or commander ever made any decisions without first consulting an augur.
